Token Manager provides a centralized way to manage Facebook Page access tokens used by Facebook Feed Pro widgets.
It is especially useful when you have multiple Facebook Feed Pro widgets on the same Joomla website.
Why Use Token Manager?
Facebook Feed Pro needs permission to access the Facebook Pages you want to display.
When connecting a widget directly to Facebook, you go through the Facebook authorization process: Facebook opens a popup where you grant the required permissions and select the Pages that Facebook Feed Pro is allowed to access. At the end of this process, Facebook provides the access tokens required to retrieve data from those Pages.
The problem is that repeating this authorization process for another widget — especially if you change the selected Pages or permissions — may cause previously issued access tokens to be revoked. As a result, widgets that were already configured may lose access to their Facebook Pages.
Token Manager solves this problem by separating Facebook authorization from individual widgets.
Instead of authorizing every widget separately, you can authorize Facebook access once in Token Manager and then use the stored Page access tokens in multiple Facebook Feed Pro widgets.
How Token Manager Works
Token Manager stores Facebook Page access tokens centrally on your Joomla website.
The typical workflow is:
- Open Token Manager.
- Click Add New (or Update) Token.
- Complete the Facebook authorization process in the popup window.
- Select the Facebook Pages you want to allow access to.
- Facebook Feed Pro receives and stores the access tokens for the selected Pages.
- When creating or editing a Facebook Feed Pro widget, select the appropriate Page using the token stored in Token Manager.
This means you don't need to repeat the Facebook authorization process every time you create another widget for a Page that has already been authorized.
Using the Same Facebook Page in Multiple Widgets
A single Page token stored in Token Manager can be used by multiple Facebook Feed Pro widgets.
For example, you may create one widget displaying the latest posts from your Facebook Page and another widget displaying its photos. Both widgets can use the same centrally stored Page access token.
This also makes managing websites with several Facebook Pages and multiple widgets much easier.
Updating Facebook Access Tokens
Facebook access tokens can occasionally become invalid or be revoked. This may happen, for example, after changes to Facebook account permissions or other Facebook security settings.
If you need to renew access, open Token Manager and click Add New (or Update) Token again.
Complete the Facebook authorization process and select the Pages you want Facebook Feed Pro to access.
Token Manager will update the stored access tokens for Pages that already exist and add tokens for newly authorized Pages.
Widgets using those Token Manager entries can then continue using the updated access information without requiring you to reconnect each widget individually.
Token Manager vs. Direct Facebook Connection
You can still connect an individual Facebook Feed Pro widget directly to Facebook.
However, if you use several widgets, Token Manager is the recommended method because it centralizes Facebook authorization and reduces the need to repeat the connection process for individual widgets.
In short:
Direct connection: Facebook authorization is performed for an individual widget.
Token Manager: Facebook authorization is managed centrally, and the resulting Page access tokens can be used by multiple widgets.
For websites using several Facebook Feed Pro widgets, Token Manager provides a simpler and more reliable way to manage Facebook Page access.
